After a busy week, I decided to have a day off and take in a bit of culture at the British Museum. The first Port Of Call for the day was to attend a talk and demonstration on The Way of Tea (Japanese tea ceremony). talk good several ladies in Kimono's very good. After an unbelievably strong cup of green tea I headed to the Grayson Perry: The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman, exhibition too see what all the fuss was about. if you have time before it closes next month, it is well worth a visit, but make sure to book your tickets a head of time as several days are already sold out.

Skating At Somerset House

I have been wanting to experience the temporary skating rink at Somerset House for years and today was my lucky day. For starters Somerset House is one of the most architect buildings in London and it is never considered winter until you have gone skating. When we spend Christmas at home it has been our tradition for years to volunteer with Crisis at one of their homeless shelters. And this year is no different. After a turkey filled breakfast we are heading to North London for the fist of our shifts and the best way to spend Christmas. Every day can be filled with the most random of tasks, so I must be dressed and ready for anything.

Late Night at British Museum

The ever amazing British Museum has put together another of their Friday 'Late Nights' . The evening was inspired by Grayson Perry's: The tomb of the Unknown Craftsman. In the Great Court students from the University of the Arts, London put together a Craft Fair where you were given the opportunity to - think, make and do.

Mention the word craft fair and I need to wear something I made. Today I am launching a new 'bib' made out of felt and decorated with buttons and vintage brooches that can be removed and wear on any other outfit. The bottom half of the outfit is finished of with a Angels Never Die skirt and tights and shoes from Primark.

My goal is to do my best to never be On Tend, but I spotted this shirt on ASOS and thought the nude colour would breath new life into a skirt I have had for a very long time. While having a look at what else ASOS had to offer I found this amazing bib necklace that works so well with the top. These cute Pirmark Brogues pull together the nude and grey.

Cool Hand Luke

We were given last minute tickets for the play Cool Hand Luke at the Aldwych theatre. It was an unexpected treat, so we need to get our skates on and head into London. For an evening of culture I am wearing a Primark jacket personalised with multiple buttons, a Debbie Shuchat skirt from TKMaxx personalised by dying green (the previous colour seen in photo on the left). And still one of my favourite pairs of boots found at Spitalfields Market.

It will be a fun night out. The play has received positive reviews and I am looking forward to seeing it.

Yves And Simon's Big Day

The day finally arrived for Yves and Simon to celebrate their Civil Partnership. OK it was yesterday, but as I was a 'best women' my day was filled with plenty of official duties. So only have had a chance to upload a photo today.

Pulling together my outfit turned out to be far easier than I was expecting and got off to a great start when I found this amazing 1960's vintage dress at a 'pop up' vintage fair a few months back. The colours for the day were pink and blue, these Pink Primark shoes and my mother's necklace fit the bill. A last minute purchase of a fascinator from Accessorize and a charity shop scarf were the final touches needed.

My New Hair Cut

After months of letting my hair grow, it finally was long enough to have it cut into a Louise Brooks style. I have a slight curl, so achieving the slick straight look as Louise takes effort and plenty of hair products. International Beach Volleyball

London is continually getting ready for the Olympics and with less than one year to go they have started to test various venues. Being that I am a big volleyball mad went to watch the semifinals at the FIVB Beach Volleyball International located at the Horse Guards Parade.

A Day At Graduate Fashion Week

Today I headed to Earls Court to check out what was new and exciting this year at Graduate Fashion Week . For such a fashionable event I thought I would pull out all the stops and wear an outfit ( vintage skirt and top) pulled together from my favourite on line shop Oxfam . The finishing touches are a Primark necklace, Warehouse handbag and clogs from Pied A Terre . Actually the clogs did not make it into London because shortly after this photo was taken the rain started and I changed into cowboy boots to stay dry.

It was an inspiring fashion show with so many interesting ideas. Christina Economu collection was my favourite, even though it is a terrible photo I had to include it.

Well what can I say about this guy. He definitely was the highlight on the model front and is wearing an outfit from Carl James Illingworth.

This was a very chic look from Laura Fairfax. The black and white was sharp with a great take on the Palazzo Pants.

As each piece of Rachel Cogley's collection came on the runway it became hairier and hairier. The colours and the big shoulders were great, but the hair defiantly leaned towards the gross side and a idea that has been around for some time. Not a hit for me, still the idea worked because I am talking about it.
. Another lovely collection. Lyudimla Lane used folds, pleats and a striking grey orange combination.

Being that I am huge fan of coloured tights, the moment Meg Cornwall's collection hit the runway it caught my attention. Her take on Harem Trousers were quality.

Today has been a good day spending time with Japanese friends and having the opportunity to be dressed fully in a with an Obi (sash) wrapped correctly and all. This is one of the 4 Vintage Kimonos they brought me from a market at Shitennoju Temple, Osaka. Getting into this outfit is definitely a 2 person job as I held my breath while my friend tied, wrapped and knotted me together. There was even a piece of cardboard used to stiffen the front of the Obi. They do look beautiful, but not the most comfortable of outfits and not the ideal choice for eating at a buffet.

A Costal Tour

It is another day touring various fishing village along the Kerala cost line with Sabu our Tuk Tuk driver. I don't think I could possibly describe how hot it is today, hiding in the shade is the best possible idea. With that in mind we decided to visit the Napier Museum and take in a bit of culture. The Day I Passed

For the past few moths I have been taking a sign language course, working towards a level one British Sign language qualification. We have had an assessment in class to see if we are on target, and I passed with flying colours. It is another 7 weeks till we are tested again, so plenty of time to keep practicing. Today I am wearing a Monsoon dress (found in a charity shop), trousers with a skirt I made and a Miss Selfridge jacket.

To top the whole outfit off I am wearing a necklace made from my mothers vintage 70's beads. They were a few left over from her weaving days and have turned out to make an fantastic piece.

I spent the most amazing evening yesterday at the Barbican for a lecture called 'Flatness and Form'. It was an opportunity to hear from both Japanese and English designers looking into and discussing the influence of Japanese fashion.

The first talk was with design team Hiroyuki Horihata and Makiko Sekiguchi from Matohu. Matohu is a Japanese concept with two meanings, one is to wear clothes in such a way that it creates an atmosphere of beauty and the sense of restrain, the other is to not consume something hastily and throw it away. A refreshing change from main stream fashion where striving for the current 'IT or bang on trend item' seems to be the focus over having true style.

The highlight of the evening was when Julian Roberts took to the stage and demonstrated his unique and revolutionary pattern cutting method 'Subtraction Cutting'. It is a technique that focuses on the hallow spaces between the garments and the body.

Julian's has a very creative website that appears to only be open on Wednesdays between 10-8. In reality it is open all the time, just change the date on your computer accordingly.

Here Julian is holding yet The evening has been so inspiring, I can't wait to give this technique a try and see what my dress ends up looking like.

Julian's demonstration was so very hands on that it resulted in this dress being created. On the 5th of Feb he is doing a full day training course, I wasn't too surprise (although disappointed) to find out that the course is already sold out.

We had a lovely evening last night at the Cancer Research Bubbles and Bows ball. There was good food, great entertainment in the form of the Charlie Rivers Band and plenty of fun stuff to bid for in the Auction. Pulling together the outfit for this event was a bit too last minute for my liking as I only finished making the twisted, bubble skirt the day before. My usual preference is to be able to feel the a fabric before I buy it , but as time was tight I went for the online option and bought from Cheap Fabrics. It all worked very well, especially as the fabric was delivered quickly. The rest of the outfit comprises of a vintage jacket bought at Greenwich market 20 years ago, a bib necklace made with felt and various broaches, L.K. Bennett shoes and a clutch bag from Primark.

A Broken Car-Outfit 4

This was not quite the start to the day I was expecting. Rushing out the door and heading off to a meeting was brought to an abrupt stop when the car would not start. The time waiting for the RAC was not a complete loss as I was able to finish a couple of proposals and rescheduled the meeting for tomorrow. The final outfit making use of my New Look dress includes a Totem dress, Warehouse blouse and Matalan sandals.

PS. the car was an easy inexpensive fix of having to replace the 10 year old battery, so I am back up and running.

Just got home from a successful meeting in Greenwich with three inspiring women. We are looking at working together, it will be interesting to see how it develops. Clothes Show live is now in London, it is nice to have this event in town. I spent the afternoon wandering through rails and rails of clothing and ended up only buying a book for inspiration and new sewing ideas . The book 49 1/2 skirts is packed full of idea, I can't wait till tomorrow to get started. Today's outfit is based around a Comme des Garcons dress I bought at a DWS event. The necklace was made by cutting felt in a half moon shape and covered with 1950's brooches, plus a couple of flowers taken off an Alice band. Simply tied together at back with a bit of ribbon sewn on the felt. The crochet snug is by Kaliko and the sandals are from Primark. Last night we enjoyed a stunning evening at Strings & Wings 70th Anniversary celebration of the Battle of Britain. The evening was filled with music by the Philharmonic Orchestra, Carl Davis as conductor and accompanied by Claire Sweeney. Wearing a vintage 1950's dress and my mother's necklace was a must for the evening. To give the dress a true authentic feel, I am wearing two net underskirts, that I have made (think I am going to add more layers to the purple one). The sandals are from La Redoute.

Wedding at Langshott Manor

The Warehouse skirt gets a well deserved day off. We are heading over to Langshott Manor for a wedding. If you are wanting a small intimate wedding this is the idyllic location, with it's own Alice in Wonderland garden. My outfit started off by making use of a vintage Haori bought for me by a friend from the monthly (flee market) sale at the Shitennoji Temple in Osaka. I have never been there but on my next trip to Japan, it will definitely be at the top of my list.

Under the Haori I am wearing an Imitz dress found at TK Maxx, Carvella shoes and a Vintage handbag also from Shitennoji Temple. Unfortunately I didn't get a good photo of the handbag other than this slightly blurry one.

I have been wanting to visit the Natural History Museum for far to long. On previous attempts I encountered a never ending queue so turned around and visited a market instead. Since I was heading into London for a meeting today, it was time to have another try. The museum did not let me down, the building alone is unbelievable.

This is the first cloudy day so far, so we headed to the Eden Project and a day under cover. We started in the Rainforest Biome and worked up a sweat.
