A Little Bit Of Sunshine

It is amazing how a great a day starts off with a little bit of sunshine. To enjoy the sunshine I am wearing a Primark jumper, I personalised with buttons, the skirt is from the Laden Show Room and I am being kept warm by a charity shop vintage crochet shawl.

A Great Evening At The Barbican

I spent the most amazing evening yesterday at the Barbican for a lecture called 'Flatness and Form'. It was an opportunity to hear from both Japanese and English designers looking into and discussing the influence of Japanese fashion.

The first talk was with design team Hiroyuki Horihata and Makiko Sekiguchi from Matohu. Matohu is a Japanese concept with two meanings, one is to wear clothes in such a way that it creates an atmosphere of beauty and the sense of restrain, the other is to not consume something hastily and throw it away. A refreshing change from main stream fashion where striving for the current 'IT or bang on trend item' seems to be the focus over having true style.

The highlight of the evening was when Julian Roberts took to the stage and demonstrated his unique and revolutionary pattern cutting method 'Subtraction Cutting'. It is a technique that focuses on the hallow spaces between the garments and the body.

Believe it or now the paper that Julian is holding up is actually a pattern.

Julian's has a very creative website that appears to only be open on Wednesdays between 10-8. In reality it is open all the time, just change the date on your computer accordingly.

Here Julian is holding yet The evening has been so inspiring, I can't wait to give this technique a try and see what my dress ends up looking like.

Julian's demonstration was so very hands on that it resulted in this dress being created. On the 5th of Feb he is doing a full day training course, I wasn't too surprise (although disappointed) to find out that the course is already sold out.

Here is a better photo of Julian's designs, showing how wonderful they are.

TGIM

I am actually quite glad that it is Monday after such a fun and relaxing weekend. To get my week off to a good start I am making use of successful charity shopping in the form of the belt, scarf and vintage lace jacket. the rest of the outfit is made up of a H&M t-shirt, Marks & Spencer skirt that I personalised by adding elastic to the hem in order to turn it into a bubble shirt. the watch is from BooHoo and I found the cowboy boots on Oxford Street.

Palazzo Pants

It is so good to see the new style trousers for 2011. These Palazzo Pants are near perfect, the price, the cut, the colour and the flow of the fabric. Go to ASOS to get you hand on these.

Yoda Style

There has been a rest bite from all the snow, so I need to advantage of this and head out to see friends. For a casual afternoon I am wearing a jacket from Portabello Market, my dad's gloves, wrap dress from H&M, Uniqlo trousers and La Redoute boots.

Another Day In Paradise

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow. What a beautiful day with enormous, fluffy snowflakes. being in Canada means that there is no such thing as a snow day, so life continues as normal, although a bit slower. For a day like this, I am wearing trousers with a short skirt combo made from African fabric by my own fair hands and a Primark coat.

Christmas Olympic Mitts

For Christmas I received these excellent Canadian Olympic mitts. They were a huge success at the 2010 Winter Olympic in Vancouver and definitely the 'IT' mitts of the season. A percentage of the profit goes to support Canadian athletes, let's see what great marketing ideal Britain comes up with for the 2012 Summer Olympics. To go with the mitts I am wearing a dress from Matalan and a beret and scarf from Asda.
